TPN PALA & ZORA PALOV

The couple first became acquainted while they were both enrolled in Vaclav Cigler’s architectural glass class at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in the 1970s. They went on to have a successful career as artists after their initial meeting. Zora Palová was born in Bratislava in 1947, and tpán Pala was born in Zlin in what was then Czechoslovakia in 1944. Zora Palová creates her clay sculptures intuitively and without a plan, whereas tpán Pala carefully sketches out his ideas and uses models to create sculptures that look lifelike.

TIME'S WEIGHT IN GOLD is a song by JAN FIAR

We are honoring the legacy of the legendary artist Jan Fiar (1933-2010), whose death occurred ten years ago today, by displaying the last of our remaining sculptures in the penthouse gallery of our building. Jan Fiar passed away in 2010. This retrospective features both his first glass sculpture, “Head,” which was created in 1967, and his most recent work, “Predator,” which was completed in 2010. Jan Fiar was born and raised in Prague, and it was there that he completed his education in sculpture under the tutelage of Professor Wágner. In 1966, Professor Stanislav Libensk and his wife Jaroslava Brychtová, who were considered to be two of the most well-known artists working in glass at the time, approached Jan Fiar with an invitation to collaborate with them on their work for the 1967 World Exposition in Montreal. Jan Fiar accepted the invitation. He had no idea that this random encounter with a piece of glass art would have such a significant influence on the course of his life. Because each of his glass sculptures is a complete entity in and of itself, they defy classification within the contemporary glass art trends that are currently popular.

DREAMS is an exhibition that highlights the collaborative efforts of artists Alena Matjka and Lars Widenfalk. The exhibition is titled ALENA MATJKA and LARS WIDENFALK

Alena Matjka was born in the Czech Republic in 1966, and after completing her secondary education in glassmaking at Kamenick enov, she went on to study at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. Her pivotal instructor, Vladimr Kopeck, instilled in her the habits of thinking creatively and actively seeking out experiences that were out of the ordinary. The artist works with a variety of mediums, including glass, stone, and natural components of the environment. This installation, titled “My Dear, Hunter from Lavondyss,” was part of the artist’s solo show that was held at our gallery in 2015. It exemplifies the mystical quality that is imbued in her objects. In the new exhibition that we have, you will be able to see other works by the artist, in addition to the new installation “She is not Me.” This installation was recently shown as part of a solo exhibition of the artist’s work at the Toyama Glass Art Museum in Japan, which is widely considered to be among the most prestigious glass museums in the world. The natural world, chance encounters with other people, and other people themselves all serve as sources of motivation for Matejka’s work. Her writing resounds with the vitality of myths, cultures, and stories from all over the world.
